Société Aéroportuaire de Lomé-Tokoin (SALT), manager of the Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport (AIGE), achieved a net profit of 7.76 billion FCFA in 2023. These figures, presented to parliament at the end of last year, represent a 14.5 % drop on the 9.08 billion FCFA recorded in 2022.
The precise reasons for this decrease remain unclear, as management has not yet clarified whether it stems from a reduction in revenues or an increase in operating and financial expenses.
This fall in profits has had the effect of reducing the allocation to the legal reserve, a provision intended to consolidate the company's shareholders' equity. This fell from 908.9 million FCFA in 2023 to 776.4 million FCFA this year, or 10 % of the previous year's net profit.
Despite this contraction, SALT continues to assert itself as a profitable and strategic company in Togo's ambitions to position itself as a sub-regional hub.
In operational terms, AIGE's passenger traffic reached 1.4 million in 2023, marking a strong increase on 2019's 916,000 passengers. The authorities are now aiming for a volume of 1.5 million passengers by the end of 2025.
To enhance its appeal, the AIGE is also planning to build a hotel. The project's developer will be appointed in 2023, and the architectural and technical studies have already been finalized.
This dynamism, combined with rigorous management, should enable the airport to maintain its strategic position in the West African sub-region, while exploring new growth opportunities.
