The second edition of Crunch Time for technological innovation, organized by the Ecole Polytechnique de Lomé (EPL), came to a close last Friday at the University of Lomé, in the presence of the EPL Director, Mr. Kondo Adjallah.
From April 22 to 26, 2024, students from all the engineering courses at EPL and Lomé's Centre d'Excellence Regional pour la maîtrise de l'Électricité sought and found solutions to the various challenges facing private companies in Togo.
122 students competed in close-knit teams from a variety of disciplines, including civil, mechanical and electronic engineering, to solve 17 problems posed by the private sector. Through their know-how, they demonstrated their potential for solving problems during the five (5) days of work on innovation.
Opening company doors
"The Crunch we experienced this week is a gas pedal towards the job of the future, an educational exercise that involves every student at every level and from every discipline. You've worked hard to put together a tight mental framework, combining different forms of intelligence and multiple skills to come up with possible solutions to the challenges put to you by our partners", said Mr. Kondo Adjallah, Director of the EPL, in his closing speech.
In front of a professional jury made up of teacher-researchers, three top teams caught the attention of the jury, and received certificates of encouragement.
The "TRANS-INNOV" team, which worked on SOTRAL's automated ticketing system, took 3rd place. Second place went to the "SOLDE- TECH" team, with Bi-box, and first place went to the "les N" team, which looked at the production and storage of green hydrogen) proposed by the Zener company.
As a reminder, Crunch Time is a collaborative, interdisciplinary experience that offers EPL students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to meet innovative engineering challenges submitted by partner companies. It is a springboard that brings students into contact with the realities of the business world, and strengthens the partnership to adapt training to the needs of the job market.
