( Le défenseur info)- In a context where women, girls and people with disabilities continue to face major socio-economic challenges in Togo, the Togolese government, in partnership with committed organizations, is tirelessly pursuing its efforts to eradicate poverty in all its forms.

With this in mind, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in Lomé (commune Agoè-Nyivé 6), the official launch of the sub-project entitled "Promoting the financial empowerment of girls, women and people with disabilities in the maritime region".an initiative supported by the NGO Initiative for Sustainable Development in Africa (I2DA), with support from the PRO-EMPLOI+ from GIZ.
The ceremony was attended by a number of local personalities, including Mme. ZEWU Afiavi Akpénèdirector of the NGO I2DA, Mr Marcel Koffi HONYIGLOrepresenting the mayor of the commune of Agoè-Nyivé 6, and Dr KOMBATE Sogui Babeadvisor to the Agoè-Nyivé prefect.


" This morning, we are launching a crucial project for our community. This program aims to equip young girls, women and people with disabilities with the skills they need to become truly financially independent, "said Mrs Zewu Afiavi Akpénè, who praised the synergy with local authorities and technical partners.
Deployed in the communes of Agoè-Nyivé 6, Avé 1, Avé 2 and Zio 1, this six-month project provides practical training adapted to each locality: biscuit-making from natural fruit in Agoè-Nyivé 6, decoration and soap-making in Avé 2, production of yoghurts, creams and dêguê in Avé 1, and processing of fruit into natural juices in Zio 1.

100 beneficiaries will take part in the program, including 80 % of women, 10 % of men to promote positive masculinity, and 10 % of people with disabilities. The aim is clear: to lift these vulnerable groups out of precariousness and actively contribute to the fight against extreme poverty in the maritime region.
With this initiative, the NGO I2DA, backed by 18 years of experience, reaffirms its determination to remain a leader in its field. a reliable partner of the Togolese governmentworking tirelessly to improve people's living conditions.
Finally, the NGO director expressed her deep gratitude to all the partners, in particular GIZ through the PRO-EMPLOI+ programfor their trust and ongoing commitment to inclusive development.
