The Awatsé sacred forest, located in the Bas-Mono 1 commune, now benefits from a management manual validated on January 15 in Afagnan. This initiative, supported by ODEF and the R4C-TOGO project, aims to restore and conserve local ecosystems at a cost of 108.6 million FCFA.
The manual focuses on four key areas: protection, restoration, community development and resource mobilization. The aim is to sustainably manage this sacred forest while improving the living conditions of local communities.
In the long term, the vision is to make this forest a lever for increasing national forest cover, contributing to Togo's ambition to reach 30 % of forest cover by 2050. A national forest restoration committee has been active for two years to steer these efforts.
