Eighteen civil society organizations and political parties, most of them members of the Dynamique Monseigneur Kpodzro (DMK), have announced the creation of a new front: the Front de Libération Nationale (FLN). This follows the formation of a similar coalition opposed to the May 6 constitutional revision.

FLN leaders have clear ambitions, including a peaceful end to the current regime, which they describe as a "neo-colonialist, military-clan dictatorship", and a series of reforms to ease the cost of living. Other objectives include setting up a Constituent Assembly to redefine the country's social contract and establish new institutions.

However, despite ambitious declarations, the FLN remains vague as to the concrete means of achieving these objectives. In the face of entrenched power, some are wondering whether this new coalition will really be able to make an impact on Togo's political landscape, or whether it will be just another movement with no future.
