On February 3, Togo's Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mila Aziablé, undertook a mission to assess water and sanitation infrastructures in the Plateaux region. Accompanied by local and traditional authorities, she visited two key sites: the Ohoundjè landfill site (Ogou 1) and the Iwolobo water treatment center (Amou).
During the visit, the challenges of waste management were highlighted. Although the Ohoundjè landfill was recognized for its efforts, the lack of sorting facilities was highlighted as a major obstacle.
The Iwolobo water treatment plant, which has been operational since June 2024, treats 3,000 m³ of water per day to supply Atakpamé and the surrounding area. However, technical problems have been noted, and the Minister insisted on the need for urgent action to resolve these malfunctions.
In conclusion, Mila Aziablé announced that a meeting would soon be held with the heads of the communes concerned to define the measures needed to overcome these difficulties.
