In an official press release issued on Wednesday, the Togolese government announced that Friday May 2, 2025 would be an exceptional public holiday with pay throughout the country.
This measure comes against a backdrop marked by a double national commemoration. On Sunday April 27, Togo celebrated the 65th anniversary of its independence in an atmosphere of patriotic fervor. Just a few days later, the country is preparing to celebrate International Labour Day on Thursday, May 1.
In the interests of continuity, and to enable citizens to take full advantage of these moments of celebration and rest, the authorities decided to grant an additional public holiday on the following day, Friday May 2. A decision welcomed by many Togolese, who see it as a gesture of caring for workers and their families.
The declaration, signed in Lomé on April 30, underlines the paid nature of this day, guaranteeing employees their usual remuneration despite the work stoppage.
This extension of the national holiday also provides an opportunity for economic and social players to take a breather after an intense symbolic period, while consolidating unity and cohesion around republican values.
On this occasion, the Government is reaffirming its commitment to promoting the well-being of its people, giving pride of place to the recognition of hard work and respect for national traditions.
