The 19th edition of the Foire internationale de Lomé (FIL)held since November 22, has once again confirmed its status as a key economic hub in the West African sub-region. Togolese journalists, dedicated to covering this event were at the heart of this success. However, in a letter sent to CETEF's General Manager, a group of accredited journalists raised concerns about their working conditions and recognition of their contribution to the fair's development.
Although these journalists have been issued with access badges, they regret that the costs incurred in covering the event are not covered. Indeed, although CETEF provides them with the necessary accreditation, no financial or technical commitment has been made for these reporters. And yet, they stress the crucial importance of their role in publicizing the fair, which they believe would not have achieved its current renown without their hard work since the first editions.
In their letter, the journalists appeal to the goodwill of CETEF to find a solution to mitigate the costs they have incurred in carrying out their mission. They stress the daily difficulties encountered by Togolese journalists in the exercise of their profession, while underlining their commitment to ethics and deontology.
This appeal, written in a courteous manner, echoes the need to recognize the value of journalists in building the reputation of the IDF. The journalists hope that a solution will be found quickly, in a spirit of collaboration, to enable these professionals to continue their work under better conditions, and thus contribute even more to the success of this international event.
The letter, signed by several local media, and sent to CETEF's General Manager on November 29, 2024, marks a call for solidarity and recognition of the commitment of those who, behind the scenes, play an active part in building IDF's reputation.
