In an official communiqué signed on April 09, 2025, the Minister of State, in charge of Halieutic and Animal Resources and Transhumance Regulation, General (2S) Damehame YARK, warns of the worrying proliferation of falsified veterinary medicines on the Togolese market.
Faced with this phenomenon, which has serious consequences for animal and human health, the Ministry is announcing unannounced and reinforced controls throughout the country. These operations will be carried out in collaboration with the forces of law and order, particularly at markets and points of entry for the sale of veterinary products.
The Minister reminds us that the marketing and use of veterinary medicines are strictly governed by Togolese legislation, in particular by law no. 98-019 of December 23, 1998 and decree no. 2012-015/PR. Only licensed professionals are authorized to handle these products.
It therefore calls on breeders and other players in the sector to source exclusively from authorized suppliers, and encourages the public to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
This initiative aims to preserve the health of livestock, guarantee food safety and protect public health. Anyone illegally involved in the sale or distribution of these products is liable to the penalties provided for by law.
The Minister of State thanks the public for their vigilance and collaboration in this crucial battle for the sustainability of Togo's livestock sector.
