On Thursday January 16, 2025, the town of Sokodé inaugurated its brand new central market at an official ceremony presided over by the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. This modern infrastructure, worth two billion CFA francs, marks a key step in the region's economic and social development.

Built within the framework of the Decentralization Support Program (PAD), financed by the Togolese government and the German Development Cooperation (KfW), the market is part of a strategy to strengthen regional growth poles. With its 36 stores, 508 sales areas and numerous ancillary buildings, the complex aims to promote the economic empowerment of women, who make up a significant proportion of local economic players.

In her address, Commerce Minister Kayi Mivedor-Sambiani hailed the President's vision for inclusive and sustainable growth. "The presence of the Head of State at this inauguration testifies to his commitment to the needs of the people and the development of local communities," she said.

The German ambassador to Togo, Dr Claudius Fischbach, also stressed the importance of this infrastructure in the context of German-Togolese cooperation, and reaffirmed his country's support for the decentralization process.
The beneficiaries, represented by Amina Gado, president of the market's women's group, expressed their gratitude for this investment, which meets the expectations of shopkeepers.

This modern market, which joins other projects in Kpalimé and Tsévié, testifies to Togo's ambition to transform its regions into real engines of economic and social development.
