In a move aimed at strengthening social protection, the Togolese government has decided to extend the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) program to students in public schools. This initiative marks the end of the "École Assur" program, in force since 2017.
Launched as an innovative solution to guarantee access to healthcare for students, AMU now offers expanded and better adapted services. Unlike "School Assur", which was limited to basic consultations and restricted coverage of medical expenses, AMU aims to cover a wider range of services, including specialized care and prevention.
For the authorities, this transition is aimed at enrolling pupils in a more inclusive and sustainable framework, consistent with the national policy of universal health care. "This measure not only guarantees access to care for children, but also eases the financial burden on families," said a Ministry of Education representative.
From the start of the new school year, pupils in public schools will automatically benefit from this coverage, with no complex administrative procedures for parents. A long-awaited breakthrough for millions of Togolese households.
This change testifies to Togo's commitment to an education system that places the health and well-being of students at the heart of its priorities.
