Rwanda has announced its withdrawal from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), accusing the organization of being "instrumentalized" by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the context of the conflict in the east of the country.
This decision was taken at a leaders' conference held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, where the Equatoguinean president's term at the head of ECCAS was extended, preventing Kigali from assuming the presidency.
This departure illustrates the growing tensions between Rwanda and the DRC within this regional body.
