The Agence nationale d'assainissement et de salubrité publique (ANASAP) is about to undergo a major reorganization, more than ten years after its creation. The government, meeting in the Council of Ministers on February 13, gave first reading to a decree designed to modify its regulatory framework.
This reform aims to better structure the agency in line with its evolving missions. Initially conceived as a coordination and control body, ANASAP has become a key player in direct interventions in the field, particularly in Lomé. The text currently being studied will clarify responsibilities between the agency, local authorities and the Greater Lomé Autonomous District (DAGL), in order to optimize sanitation management and improve the living environment of the population.
ANASAP, whose missions include cleaning gutters, destroying unauthorized dumps and developing green spaces, has had its effectiveness reinforced since 2023 with the opening of a regional branch in Kara. This reorganization is part of a drive to adapt to the country's new environmental and urban challenges.
