After months of excitement and anticipation, the Senegalese will finally exercise their right to vote this Sunday, March 24, 2024, with around 7.3 million voters facing 19 candidates.
Last Friday marked the end of the election campaign in Senegal, on the eve of a hotly contested presidential election to be held this Sunday.
In the streets of Dakar and Mbour, impressive crowds gathered to support two of the favorite presidential candidates.
This election is widely perceived as the closest in the country's history, as voters prepare to choose from a diverse list of candidates. Amadou Ba, a political veteran affiliated to the same party as current president Macky Sall, is up against Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a charismatic young politician backed by Ousmane Sonko.
As a reminder, the opposition has warned against any attempt at electoral fraud, while the authorities have pledged to guarantee a free and transparent election for a country of peace and true democracy.
