The Togolese government is pursuing its commitment to sustainable development with ambitious projects designed to improve living conditions for the population.
Among these initiatives, the Projet d'Amélioration des Conditions Sanitaires en Milieu Scolaire et Rural (Passco) stands out for its considerable social impact. Since its launch, Passco has made it possible to respond to the national priority of access to drinking water, a major issue for the well-being of the population.
Phase 3 of the project, launched in October 2023 in the village of Péssidè (Kéran prefecture), marks a new turning point with funding of 6.5 billion CFA francs, supported by Agence Française de Développement (AFD). This ambitious project aims to build 850 boreholes equipped with human-powered pumps, providing over 200,000 people with access to drinking water by the end of 2025.
Since 2014, the rate of access to drinking water in Togo has risen considerably, from 47.66 % to 69 % in 2023, thanks in particular to the previous phases of Passco. In rural areas, this rate has reached 74.4 %, a significant step towards the ultimate goal of universal access to water for the country's 8 million inhabitants. This progress testifies to the government's determination to invest in a better future and ensure a strong, healthy and educated Togo.
