On February 1, 2025, the French capital will be the scene of a landmark ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of former Togolese president Gnassingbé Eyadema.
On this date, a mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated in his honor at the Madeleine church, a symbolic place in Paris' religious heritage, at 6pm.
The mass, dedicated to memory and gratitude, was organized by UNIR (Union pour la République) chapters in France, Germany, Belgium and Italy.
It aims to pay tribute to a man who left his mark on Togo's history during more than 38 years as head of state. Gnassingbé Eyadema, who died on February 5, 2005, remains a central figure in Togo's political landscape, and this event recalls his political legacy and his contributions to the country's development.
The ceremony will take place at the Madeleine church, located Place de la Madeleine in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, just a stone's throw from the famous Opéra district. The venue, emblematic for its architectural beauty and history, offers a solemn atmosphere, perfect for commemorating this anniversary.
Togolese living in France and Europe, as well as friends and supporters of the former president, are invited to take part in this moment of meditation and solidarity. The mass is part of a series of events planned to honor his memory around the world.
This event, which brings together the Togolese diaspora and its allies, represents an opportunity to remember a leader whose impact remains alive in the memories of the Togolese people and beyond.
