With seven months to go before the Ivorian presidential election, 25 political parties made official this Monday, March 10, 2025, the creation of the Coalition for peaceful change in Côte d'Ivoire (CAP-CI). This alliance aims to demand electoral reforms to guarantee a fair and open ballot. Signatories include opposition heavyweights such as the PDCI-RDA, MGC and FPI.
However, one notable absence marked the ceremony: that of the Côte d'Ivoire African Peoples' Party (PPA-CI) of Laurent Gbagbo. The former president, a declared candidate in the October 2025 elections, had nevertheless launched a campaign in August 2024 Bonoua Appeala project designed to unite the opposition against the current government. But this initiative was not taken up by the main groups now united within CAP-CI.
According to Léon Sékaa doctoral student in political science at the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, this absence was to be expected: "Laurent Gbagbo refuses any alliance other than the Bonoua Appeal"..
Under the direction of Tidjane ThiamChairman of the PDCICAP-CI is planning a series of meetings and tours across the country to press for a more transparent electoral process.
