The Eagles of Mali scored a resounding 3-0 victory over the Comoros on Thursday evening in Berkane, on Matchday 5ᵉ of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Thanks to a brace from Kamory Doumbia and an opening goal from Nene Dorgeles, the Malians revived their qualification hopes and reshuffled the cards in a Group I that was more hotly contested than ever.
Faced with a Comorian team that dominated the standings before the match, Mali quickly took control. On 20ᵉ minutes, Nene Dorgeles opened the scoring after a brilliant pass from Yves Bissouma. Despite a few attempts by the Coelacanths, notably from free-kicks, Mali's defense remained unassailable.
After the break, the Eagles stepped up a gear. First Kamory Doumbia finished off a cross from El Bilal Touré in the 55ᵉ minute, before scoring his second eight minutes later from a precise service from Bissouma. Completely outclassed, the Comoros were never able to turn the game around.
With this success, Mali climb to 4ᵉ place with eight points, coming back to within just two lengths of the Malagasy leader (10 points). The Comoros, meanwhile, drop to 3ᵉ place (9 points), leaving Ghana in ambush.
With only three rounds remaining, Mali are back in the race for the World Cup and looking to the next round with ambition. This momentum must be confirmed in their next match if they are to continue dreaming of a historic qualification.
