In 2024, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) celebrates 30 years of existence.
An opportunity for the Uemoa Commission to demonstrate the great strides made since the organization's creation in 1994.
With this in mind, the representative office in Togo organized a meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, with the press in Togo.
The resident representative of the Uemoa Commission recalled that Uemoa is an organization that enables eight West African countries to pool their resources and work together to build a much stronger, more stable economy, capitalizing on their achievements around shared values and a common currency.
30 years of achievement
A lot has been achieved in 30 years," said Aminata Lo Paye. The resident representative of the Uemoa Commission stressed that Uemoa, given its missions as the executive body, has made a major contribution to the macroeconomic convergence of the union's economies.
Initiated projects
It has also initiated a number of projects and programs to contribute effectively to the economic development of the area and boost intra-Community trade through the free movement of people, goods and services within the union.
"You know, Uemoa is above all about bringing our economies closer together to face our common destiny. One hundred and thirty-one reforms in various sectors have been initiated and implemented in our various States. Togo has implemented 76%, a satisfactory figure for the implementation of our reforms. Overall, we have 48 projects and programs initiated and implemented in Togo", she indicated.
UEMOA was created on January 10, 1994 by West African heads of state. Thirty years after its creation, UEMOA has made a significant contribution to strengthening and consolidating monetary and economic integration. The Union continues its resilient march.
