In Togo, the ambitious project to build 20,000 affordable housing units in Kpomé is currently undergoing technical evaluation.
Since January 30, 2025, the stakeholders involved have been meeting to examine the technical options and ensure their conformity with national energy, telecommunications, water and sanitation policies. The aim is to finalize a technical document at the meeting scheduled for January 31.
The project, supported by a feasibility study financed by the West African Development Bank (BOAD), covers 1,177 hectares in the Zio prefecture, 40 kilometers from Lomé. It aims to respond to growing demographic pressure and improve urban infrastructures.
Several institutions, including the Fonds de solidarité africain and the Caisse régionale de refinancement hypothécaire de l'UEMOA, are in discussion for financing, while partners such as Shelter Afrique and the International Finance Corporation also plan to contribute to housing construction.
