President Faure Gnassingbé inaugurated the Centre des Maladies Infectieuses (CMI) in Kara, northern Togo, on Thursday, marking a major step forward for the region's healthcare system. The center, financed by the German government as part of the Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights (SRDS) program with a budget of 46 million euros, aims to improve access to specialized care.

The CMI, which has 43 beds, an intensive care unit and a pharmacy, meets a crucial need in a region where patients had to travel up to 500 kilometers for care in Lomé. At the same time, the Dogta-Lafiè hospital was also inaugurated, reinforcing the healthcare offer in Kara.
These infrastructures are part of the Government's Roadmap 2020-2025, aimed at reducing regional disparities in healthcare.

The President emphasized that these initiatives will save lives and facilitate access to healthcare for the local population, positioning Kara as a quality regional health center.
