Every year, the world commemorates March 08 as International Women's Rights Day.
In Togo, this date was marked by a meaningful initiative led by the Togo Hospital Practitioners' Union (Synphot). Under the leadership of its General Secretary, Dr Gilbert TsolényanuThe union paid tribute to women in the medical profession and to patients, who are essential figures in the world of healthcare.
A tribute tour of three hospitals

The Synphot team visited three of the Togolese capital's major hospitals: the CHU Sylvanus Olympio, CHU Campus de Lomé and Hôpital de Bé. The aim of this initiative was to pay tribute to the work, dedication and resilience of the women who care for patients every day, sometimes under difficult conditions.
Doctors, nurses, midwives, care assistants, cleaners and patients all received words of recognition and encouragement. For Dr Gilbert Tsolényanu, it was essential to remember that these women are "the silent heroines of health, at the service of women, the mother of humanity".
A celebration of respect and empathy

Beyond the tribute, Synphot carried a key message: better reception, attentive listening, greater empathy and mutual respect between caregivers and patients.
These values, essential in the hospital environment, aim to improve the relationship between healthcare professionals and their patients. "Humanized, caring care contributes not only to the well-being of patients, but also to the fulfillment of caregivers in their daily mission," emphasized Dr. Tsolényanu.
A commitment to be strengthened

This commemoration is not just a day of tribute. Synphot intends to pursue its commitment to better working conditions for healthcare professionals and more humane access to care for all patients.

Through this event, the union reminds us that the fight for women's rights, including in the health sector, must be a daily priority. By highlighting the crucial role of women in Togolese hospitals, the March 8, 2025 is a day of recognition, but also a call for concrete action for a more inclusive healthcare system that respects the rights of all.
