Togo continues to make progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS over the past decade. According to data revealed by the Conseil national de lutte contre le SIDA (CNLS), to mark World AIDS Day on December 1The combined efforts of the government and its partners have produced convincing results between 2010 and 2023.

Indeed, statistics show an impressive 63 % reduction in HIV-related deaths and a 65 % decrease in new infections over this period. These advances are attributed to reinforced mobilization and the implementation of effective strategies. By 2023, more than 90,000 people living with HIV (PLHIV) were on antiretroviral treatment, representing near-total therapeutic coverage for individuals who know their serostatus.

Of these patients, 72,926 received a viral load test, achieving a coverage rate of 80 %. In addition, 90.1 % of PLHIV on treatment had a suppressed viral load in 2022, an improvement on the 90 % recorded the previous year.

Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) has also made significant progress, with national coverage reaching 85 % by 2023. In addition, HIV prevalence among people aged 15 to 49 has stabilized at 1.6 %.

These results bring the country closer to the global target set by UNAIDS, known as "95-95-95": 95 % of PLHIV knowing their status, 95 % of them on antiretroviral treatment, and 95 % of them with a suppressed viral load. Togo currently has rates of 90 %, 84 % and 76 % respectively, demonstrating steady progress towards these targets.

To maintain this momentum, Togo has drawn up a strategic roadmap to consolidate these gains and step up the national response. These efforts, hailed internationally, reflect the country's commitment to defeating the epidemic and ensuring a better future for generations to come.

These advances illustrate the hope of a world where HIV/AIDS will be a thing of the past.
