In Togo, the months of September, October and November will be marked by abundant rainfall, particularly in the plateau and maritime regions. The announcement was made on Tuesday August 20, 2024, by the National Meteorological Agency (ANAMET) at a meeting with the press.
In concrete terms, this short season will be characterized by surplus rainfall with a normal trend. With this in mind, the agency advises growers to anticipate soil preparation and sow as soon as the first rains fall. They are also advised to use short-cycle, resilient crop varieties to minimize losses.
According to forecasts, these weather conditions, which are favorable to agriculture, entail risks of flooding in the Lake Togo, Mono and Ouémé watersheds.
"People must avoid anarchic occupation of flood-prone areas, particularly in urban agglomerations and basins, and ensure rational management of water resources to meet the needs of hydroelectric dams and hydro-agricultural developments," said ANAMET Managing Director Latifou Issaou.
As a reminder, the main rainy season was marked by normal to surplus rainfall.
