The year 2024 stands out as a milestone in Togo's public health history. Under the impetus of President Faure Gnassingbé and as part of the government's Togo 2025 roadmap, bold reforms have been initiated to build a inclusive health system and accessible to all.
Universal Health Insurance (AMU) and massive investment in medical infrastructure are among the major achievements of the year.

Universal Health Insurance: a pillar of reform

Launched as an essential component of the reforms, Universal Health Insurance aims to guarantee equitable access to quality healthcare, particularly for the most vulnerable populations. The program is based on significant financial and logistical investments, reflecting the government's determination to lay the foundations for sustainable universal health coverage.

At the same time, complementary initiatives have increased the availability of essential medicines and improved the training of medical staff, contributing to better quality care throughout the country.

The Wezou program: a model for maternal and child health

The Wezou program, dedicated to the protection of pregnant women and newborns, stood out in 2024 as one of the sector's flagship success stories. Thanks to a significant extension of its geographical coverage and improved availability of prenatal and obstetric services, this scheme has significantly improved maternal and child health indicators.

The results are convincing: maternity-related risks have been considerably reduced, illustrating an integrated, targeted approach that meets the real needs of the population.

Modern infrastructures for greater access to care

To support these advances, the government has undertaken unprecedented investment in healthcare infrastructure. The construction of new medical centers and the modernization of existing facilities have enabled the country to be equipped with cutting-edge technology, particularly where regional disparities in access to care are concerned.

These efforts reflect our determination to ensure that all Togolese, regardless of their location, have access to health services tailored to their needs.

A clear vision for a sustainable future

The progress made in 2024 has underpinned Togo's unwavering commitment to building a resilient and inclusive healthcare system. By putting the most vulnerable populations at the heart of its priorities, the government is demonstrating its determination to achieve the ambitious goals set out in the Togo 2025 roadmap.

A recently published report highlights the successes achieved and the challenges that remain. This document underlines that, thanks to a strategic vision and collective mobilization, concrete and sustainable improvements are possible, paving the way for a future where health for all is no longer an aspiration, but a reality.

Togo is moving forward, determined to guarantee every citizen a healthier, more fulfilling life.
