On May 9, 2025, the President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received a Qatari delegation led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulafi, during a working visit to Lomé. Discussions focused on the friendly and cooperative relations between Togo and Qatar, marked by fruitful exchanges and prospects for development.


President Gnassingbé expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the partnership between the two countries, and welcomed Qatar's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. "I am delighted to be in Togo to meet His Excellency the President, with whom I have had discussions on our bilateral cooperation. We are truly proud of the level of cooperation between the State of Qatar and Togo, and we wish to develop this relationship to a higher level," said Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulafi.



The meeting also highlighted Togo's efforts to consolidate peace and stability in Africa. The Qatari minister praised Togo's mediation in the crisis between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), stressing the importance of cooperation between the two nations. "We also discussed our regional efforts in the field of peace and security. We appreciate and welcome the work His Excellency the President is doing as the African Union mediator in the conflict between Rwanda and the DRC," added the Minister of State, reaffirming Qatar's commitment to working closely with Togo to achieve a lasting solution.
The two countries share a common vision of peace, security and stability, strengthening their strategic partnership.
