From July 19 to 27, 2025, the prefecture of Kozah, in northern Togo, will play host to the Evala, a traditional Kabyè wrestling event as spectacular as it is deeply symbolic.

Much more than a competition, this event is a rite of passage marking young men's entry into adulthood. Each fight, rooted in an age-old heritage, celebrates the strength, resilience and cultural commitment of the "Evalou".

Under the eyes of local communities - and often of Faure Gnassingbé, son of the country - these jousts reflect a strong identity, between spiritual traditions, community pride and tourist effervescence.

A true pillar of Kabyè culture, the Evala is also a lever for regional development, attracting visitors and economic initiatives to the Kara region every year.
