The Regional Director of Education for the Plateaux Ouest region, Alpha Kao Mollah, has signed a radical decision concerning the management of cases of school pregnancy in the region's schools.
In response to the resurgence of these incidents, decision N°0036/2025/DRE-PLO/KP stipulates the immediate exclusion of 43 male students responsible for pregnancies on female students, for the 2024-2025 school year.
This measure, taken after a regional disciplinary council held on March 10, 2025, is aimed at combating the growing phenomenon of school pregnancies, which seriously undermine the performance of girl students and contribute to an alarming dropout rate.
The Regional Director stresses the importance of guaranteeing a serene learning environment for young girls, away from this scourge.
Pupils concerned are excluded from all schools in the region until the end of the school year, with the possibility of re-enrolment subject to a written undertaking from them and a parent or guardian.
This decision will come into force immediately, and heads of inspection and establishment have been instructed to ensure that it is strictly applied.
The Ministry of Education thus reaffirms its commitment to protecting learners from sexual violence and promoting girls' schooling in a setting free from all forms of harassment.
