In Kara, on February 19, 2025, the Palais des Congrès de Kara hosted a training workshop for journalists and community radio presenters from the Savanes, Centrale and Kara regions. Organized by the Ministry of Health Care Access and Coverage (MASCS), this initiative aimed to raise awareness of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and the fundamentals of Universal Health Insurance (UHI). Some fifty participants took part.

Strengthening media relays to raise awareness

The first module, led by Mr. Eyassama P. ADOM, focal point of the WEZOU program, highlighted the crucial issues at stake in maternal and child health. Participants learned about key determinants, mortality reduction strategies, and the role of communities and the media in disseminating best practices. Emphasis was placed on the importance of prenatal monitoring, including ultrasound, Rhesus typing and blood counts.

The second module, led by Professor Aklesso BAGNY, coordinator of the SSEQCU program, demystified the fundamentals of AMU. He recalled the key principles of solidarity, equity of access, shared responsibility, freedom of choice and progressiveness. The financing mechanisms, based on social contributions, the State contribution and patient participation, were explained, as was the role of the managing bodies, CNSS (8323) and INAM (8220). The professor also explained that each household covered includes the principal insured, his/her spouse and four children.

The authorities' commitment to a proactive community press

At the end of the interactive exchanges, Minister Jean-Marie Koffi Ewonoulé TESSI praised the mobilization of community media, underlining their essential role in raising public awareness in local languages. "We are counting on a press that contributes, that makes proposals, a press that believes in our country", he declared, recalling that this workshop was a continuation of the commitments made at the November 22, 2024 meeting in Agbodrafo.

This training is also part of the implementation of the P3 Program, aimed at establishing universal health coverage, in line with the vision of the Head of State, Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBÉ.
