Egypt will be without Mohamed Salah for some time to come. He has already returned to Liverpool to nurse a thigh injury before perhaps returning for the end of the competition, but the Pharaohs will first have to get out of their group before seeing him again in Ivory Coast.
Against all expectations, the team, one of the CAN favourites, has missed its start to the competition and must win against the astonishing Cape Verde to secure its future.
The Pharaohs will have the chance to meet an opponent who has already qualified as group leader, and will therefore be reshuffling their starting eleven to give some of their players a breather. In fact, this may well be the current positive sign in this febrile Egyptian squad.
As for Ghana, they must also win against Mozambique to avoid the embarrassment of a second failure in the group phase. This should virtually guarantee them a best third-place finish, even if Egypt win.
