Held to a 1-1 draw by Angola and a 2-2 defeat by Burkina Faso, Algeria lost to Mauritania, who had never won a match in their CAN history. In the 37th minute, Dellahi scored the only goal of the match after a scramble.
Despite two defeats, Mauritania finished third in their group and qualified for the last 16 for the first time in their history.
