The Prefecture of Akébou made a memorable mark on International Women's Rights Day with a major event celebrating the essential role played by women in socio-economic development. At the Place des Fêtes La Croisette in Kougnohou, a large crowd gathered around influential figures from the political and social landscape, including deputies Mboma Lumen and Kodjo Gnatse, the mayors of the communes, and several personalities committed to the cause of women.
A strong plea for equality
The 2024 edition of this celebration focused on the theme of equality and empowerment of women and girls. Two keynote speeches stood out: Mr. DJATO, Prefectural Director of Social Action, Mrs. HOVI Adjo, President of the Organizing Committee, and the Honorable Deputy Kodjo Gnatse successively underlined the stakes involved in promoting gender equality and the importance of identity documents, which are essential for the socio-economic integration of women.
Mboma Lumen, a source of inspiration for young women
One of the key figures at the event was the Honorable Mboma Lumen, member of the national board of the Mouvement des Femmes Unir (MFU), who captivated the audience with a powerful speech on the importance of education as a lever for emancipation. Her commitment to promoting women's rights is in line with the vision of the Head of State, His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé, for a more inclusive society.
A promising future for the women of Akébou
This celebration was not only a moment of recognition of the advances made in gender equality in Togo, but also a strong signal that the fight for women's empowerment is on. The enthusiasm and mobilization of the participants testify to a collective determination to work towards a future in which women play a full role in all areas of society.
