Togo is embarking on a profound transformation of its agricultural sector with the launch of the ProMAT (Program for the Modernization of Agriculture in Togo), which will run from 2025 to 2034. This new scheme aims to boost economic growth by strengthening agriculture, the key driver of the country's economy and food security.
The program is structured around four key strategic areas:
- Production support and climate resilience : Strengthen the ability of cropping systems to cope with climatic hazards.
- Product enhancement and market access : Optimize the development of agricultural production to offer producers stable, profitable outlets.
- Access to financing and promotion of private initiatives : Stimulate investment in the sector by improving the availability of funds and encouraging private initiative.
- Strengthening agricultural governance : Improve the effectiveness of public policies and promote optimal coordination between all players in the sector.
Already presented to key players and financial partners, ProMAT follows on from previous national initiatives such as PNIASA and PNIASAN, demonstrating Togo's ambition to meet contemporary challenges, notably climate change and the competitiveness of local products, to ensure a sustainable agricultural future.
