The President of the Togolese Republic, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, is taking part in the solemn inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of Ghana on January 7, 2025, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Elected for a second term at the head of Ghana on December 7, 2024, after a first stint at the supreme magistracy from 2012 to 2017, John Dramani Mahama begins a new chapter in his leadership. At the official ceremony, the Togolese president will offer his warm congratulations on behalf of the Togolese people, while expressing his best wishes for a successful term dedicated to Ghana's progress and prosperity.
Two weeks after his election, Ghana and Togo had already initiated bilateral discussions during John Dramani Mahama's visit to Lomé. These exchanges were aimed at strengthening the framework for cooperation between the two nations, united by historic ties, a common border and partnership agreements covering key sectors such as trade, energy, agriculture, the environment and transport.
This convergence of views on crucial issues such as peace, security and defense illustrates the strength of good neighborly relations between Lomé and Accra. The participation of the Togolese Head of State in this ceremony symbolizes the strategic and fraternal importance of these relations in the regional context.
