While the Alliance des États du Sahel (AES) has a regional integration ambition based on solidarity and the well-being of its populations, announcing here an inclusive policy towards the nationals of the countries of the Sahel, the AES is also a major player in the Sahel region. members of ECOWAS, the latter adopting a strict and dissuasive line of resolution towards the ESA nations (Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso).

Meeting today in Abuja, ECOWAS leaders firmly reiterated their position: no "tailor-made agreements" will be possible for states leaving the organization. In other words, the free movement of people and goods will not be reciprocal with countries that have chosen to break away from ECOWAS.
