Togo's ÉMERGENCE Films festival, a not-to-be-missed event for fans and professionals of African cinema, is preparing to open the doors to its 11th edition, to be held from November 02 to 06, 2024 in Lomé and Aného. The announcement was made this Wednesday, October 16, 2024, during a press conference held at the Institut Français du Togo.
Having reached maturity after 10 editions, to innovate the festival, which for a long time accepted only short films in competition, is now opening up to feature-length films, with a few adjustments introduced to offer the best to the public.
Over five days, cinephiles and filmmakers will be able to enjoy a variety of films at Canal Olympia Midé in Agoè, on the outskirts of Lomé, and in Aného, 45 km from Lomé, which will host a full day of programming.
Aného, city of programming and tourism for the 11th edition
This year, in 2024, the 11th edition promises to be full of discoveries and emotions for lovers of the 7th art. Film enthusiasts, industry professionals and the general public are all invited to this cultural event, which will also take place in Aného, a second innovation.
"We decided that the festival would only take place in Lomé. So we came to an agreement with Lake 1 Town Hall in Aného for us to have a full day of programming in Aného to share with the Aného public and take our hundreds of guests from abroad and from the interior of the country on a tour of the cultural and historical tourist sites, as well as testing the culinary art of the Gin people of Aného", said Joël Tchedre, promoter of the Émergence Films festival.
In conjunction with the 11th edition of the Émergence festival, the Association Togolaise du Cinéma Numérique Ambulant (CNA Togo) announces the re-launch of the Émergence Films Lab, an international film development laboratory for authors, scriptwriters and directors from French-speaking West African countries.
Work on schedule
Taking place in Lomé from November 02 to 6, 2024, the workshop will give 12 participants the opportunity to develop their feature-length documentary and fiction projects.
For five days, those selected will be supervised by experienced African trainers, specialists in their field, and will benefit from exchanges, sharing and individual meetings to fine-tune their projects.
The program will close with a pitch session open to the public, bringing together festival-goers from Africa and Europe, heads of local and international TV channels and representatives of institutions.
Applications for Émergence Films Lab 2024 were open until September 15 to residents of French-speaking West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
Since its creation in 2014, the Festival ÉMERGENCE has attracted nearly 50,000 spectators and screened over 250 films. The festival has become a not-to-be-missed event, offering a dynamic platform for the dissemination and promotion of innovative and diverse cinematic creations.
