Togo's national tennis team marked a turning point in its history this weekend by qualifying for Group I of the prestigious Davis Cup. The matches took place on the courts of the Fédération Togolaise de Tennis (FTT) at Lomé's municipal stadium, where Togo faced Latvia in singles and doubles.

The historic qualification was sealed on Sunday, September 15, 2024, with Togo's decisive 2-0 victory over Latvia, a result that takes Togo into World Group I for the first time, a higher level of competition in international tennis.

In the doubles match, the Togolese pair of Thomas Sétodji and Hod'adabalo Padio beat the Latvian duo of Daniels Tens and Davis Rolis.

The Davis Cup 2024, which provides a high-level competitive platform for national men's tennis teams, comprises 24 teams. These include the 12 teams that lost out in the February 2024 qualifiers, as well as the 12 victorious teams from the World Group I play-offs, also held in February.

The 12 winning teams in this phase will qualify for the 2025 Davis Cup, while the 12 losing teams will have to play-off to avoid relegation to the lower divisions.

Togo's qualification now paves the way for greater opportunities on the international men's tennis scene.
