History repeats itself for Algeria in 2022. They were eliminated from the group phase of the CAN 2023, following their defeat by Mauritania (0-1) on Tuesday evening. With two points from three games, the Fennecs find themselves bottom of their group.
Finalists and winners of the CAN 2019 against Senegal ( 1-0), Algeria can no longer go far. Last in their group for 2022, they finished bottom of the table following their defeat by Mauritania (0-1).
Held to a 1-1 draw by Angola and a 2-2 defeat by Burkina Faso, Algeria lost to Mauritania, who had never won a match in their CAN history. In the 37th minute, Dellahi scored the only goal of the match after a scramble.
Despite two defeats, Mauritania finished third in their group and qualified for the last 16 for the first time in their history.
