The Collectif des Syndicats de la Santé today announced the release of three health professionals arrested during the June 6 demonstrations in Lomé. They are a doctor, a midwife and a pharmacy intern.

The arrests caused a stir in the medical profession, which was quick to express its indignation at what it saw as an attack on the fundamental rights of healthcare workers.

In a sober but determined message to its members, the Collectif welcomed the release:

"Comrades, greetings. The Collectif des Syndicats de la Santé comes to announce the release of the doctor, midwife and pharmacy intern apprehended on 06/06/25."

Signed by Dr Gilbert Tsolényanu, an emblematic figure of medical trade unionism in Togo, this message marks an important step in the mobilization of the health sector in defense of trade union freedoms and the right to protest.

The Collectif did not specify the circumstances of this release, but discussions remain lively between health professionals and the authorities, in a socio-political context that remains tense.
