On an official mission to Togo on behalf of the European Union, Ms Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, was received in audience by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, on April 09, 2025 in Lomé.

This visit is part of the strengthening of cooperation between the European Union and Togo. Discussions between the two personalities focused on strategic issues relating to security, economic development, political governance and regional dynamics.
At the end of the meeting, the Slovenian head of diplomacy praised the solid partnership between Togo and the European Union. She underlined the shared desire to intensify this collaboration, particularly in the sensitive northern areas of the country, which are facing growing security and humanitarian challenges.

"The dialogue we had with the President of the Republic was frank and constructive. It enabled us to identify concrete avenues for deepening our cooperation, particularly in areas of high socio-economic impact", she declared.
Discussions also highlighted the need for concerted action on security issues in the West African sub-region, with a focus on development and humanitarian aid projects.
Alongside the official talks, Ms Fajon visited several sites of strategic interest financed by the European Union. These infrastructures, in the education, drinking water, sanitation and transport sectors, illustrate the EU's concrete commitment to the Togolese government.
For the record, the European Union's action in Togo revolves around the 2021-2027 Joint Programming Document, aligned with the priorities of the Togo 2025 Government Roadmap. This strategic partnership aims to promote inclusive human development, support sustainable agro-industries, and consolidate social peace and national resilience.
